You know what they say: all good things come in threes.
So, when it comes to getting your customers' attention, you should think about three things: notifications, notifications, notifications.
You may not have realized it yet, but push notifications are key to keeping your customers engaged with your brand and excited about your products.
But have you ever thought about adding fancy push notifications to make it more like Amazon? Or maybe you just want some free repeat traffic on autopilot?
Either way, we're here to help you turn that frown upside down and show you how to enable Shopify to push notifications!
And the best part? We'll show you not one, not two, but three ways to enable push notifications on your Shopify store. But let's be real; one way is much easier than the other, so we recommend going with that one.
So, sit back, relax and let's get those push notifications popping!
What are Push Notifications?
Push notifications are messages on users' phones when they are not browsing your Shopify store. This helps you let customers know about new sales, product launches, special discounts, and whatnot. Push notifications are a great way to engage with your customers, and they can also help boost sales.
For example, you can use push notifications to announce a sale or discount on a product. This will encourage customers who have already considered buying that particular product but haven't decided yet. This allows you to make a sale, and your users will also get a good deal.
A win-win solution, isn't it?
How to Enable Shopify Push Notifications using an app?
Many apps can help you enable Shopify to push notifications. One of them is PushOwl. It allows you to easily set up and manage your push notification campaigns from one dashboard. This way, you don't need to worry about creating a great user experience.
Here's the step-by-step to enabling Shopify to push notifications with PushOwl.
Step 1: From the Shopify dashboard, hover over Apps in the left-hand sidebar.
Step 2: Click on Customize your store in the top right corner. Once you’ve done that, search for PushOwl Web Push Notifications.
Step 3: Install the app.
Step 4: Create a new campaign or edit an existing one by going to Apps > PushOwl > Campaigns
Step 5: Add a campaign name and description, and select your app as an action provider.
Step 6: Select the styles of notifications you want to send your customers.
Step 7: From here, you can customize your message and schedule a campaign to send out notifications immediately or later.
Note: PushOwl is not the only app; it has better features than other apps. You can even try other apps available out there. Just copy and paste the process.
How to Enable Shopify Push Notifications without installing an app?
If you feel like installing an app affects the speed or performance of your store, you can still enable it without installing an app. You still need the support of a third-party app, as the Shopify App store does not have a tool for this purpose. But you can use an app like Pushengage to do that. But it requires more manual work than installing an app and setting up a campaign.
Step 1: Start logging into your Shopify account and then go to Sales Channels » Online Store » Themes.
Step 2: Click the “Customize Theme” tab and then click on Actions. Then, select Edit Code.
Step 3: Click on the file named theme.liquid under Layout to open it:
Step 4: To get the push notifications to work for your site, sign into or sign up with a PushEngage dashboard and go to Settings » Site Details. There, you'll see a button that reads 'Click Here For Setup Instruction.'
Step 5: Click the Any Site tab, and copy the installation code.
Step 6: Return to your Shopify theme customizer and reopen the theme.liquid file there.
Locate the line of code that reads, and then paste PushEngage's Javascript just before it.
Once you’ve done that, go to your PushEngage dashboard and finish the setup tasks. You’re ready to begin collecting subscribers!
